Hi, I'm Justin.
Founder of TapeDash · Co-founder of OnlyOptionsTrades · Charge Nurse
From pharma lottery tickets to defined risk
I started out trading high-risk pharma stocks. That's a game where one clinical trial result can make or break your whole position, and I learned quickly how risky that is. So I moved to options on quality companies, where I could take the same defined risk without betting everything on a headline from a lab.
Today I'd call myself a multi-component trader. Not just the chart or the technicals, but the fundamentals (even if they don't mean much for an intraday trade), the economy, earnings, options flow, sector flow and market bias, all together. That's exactly how TapeDash is laid out.
The trade I still think about
Back in 2021, a wave of bullish options flow was coming into Boeing. I took a large position in calls that expired two weeks out. With three days left, I cut my losses: about −$50,000. One hour later, news broke that Boeing had struck a major deal to supply jets to an airline, and the stock rallied.
I don't tell that story because the flow was right. I tell it because it taught me what really decides your results: position size, timing and the discipline to plan the exit before you're in the trade. Those lessons are built into every TapeDash alert and tool.
Building OnlyOptionsTrades
In 2020, Anthony and I decided it was time to put in the work and build a community of like-minded traders. That became OnlyOptionsTrades, and I helped run it for six years. The biggest thing it taught me: traders don't need more knowledge. They need risk management and discipline.
Why I built TapeDash
TapeDash started as something much smaller: a Discord webhook to post alerts. Then I asked myself, why not put more into this, much more? Why not build a true one-stop terminal, where the community side lives in OOT and the research and tools live in the TapeDash portal?
The first problem it solved was my own. When I went back to school for nursing, I didn't have hours to sit and scan. So I automated everything I used to do by hand, especially scanning for flow and trade setups, and had it alert me only when my criteria were met. That automation is the backbone of TapeDash today.
If you're skeptical, the first thing I'd show you is the Funded Challenge. It's what OOT always set out to be, and what TapeDash is the next step of: learn, prove it, and move on. You trade live market prices with zero money at risk, you build real discipline, and if you do well you can earn rewards, potentially including a free membership. Getting rewarded for doing it right is all I ever wanted for our members: the knowledge, the confidence to move on, and a platform that simplifies their research time.
Why nursing
I've always wanted to help people. OOT let me do that, but when you help people with money, it's never quite enough; you're only appreciated for so long. Nursing lets me help where it matters most: with people's health.
So I challenged myself again. In 2024 I worked my way into a nursing program in Florida, and in late 2025 I finished it. Today I work as a Charge Nurse on a dementia floor, and I'm transitioning to the skilled nursing floor, where the acuity is much higher, to keep pushing my clinical skills.
The biggest lesson nursing has given me is about time. Where I work, I'm surrounded by people who don't have time left to build something, to start over, to live without regrets. It taught me that there's only now. Tomorrow isn't promised. That's why I make the most of every day and wake up with a smile on my face, because before I know it, God willing, I'll be where the people I care for are today.
Outside the charts
I met my fiancée while I was in nursing school in Florida. She's a physical therapist, and we're getting married in December 2027. In my free time I'm big on the gym and running, and I'm currently training for the Tahoe 200, a 200-mile run, in June 2027. I play pickleball, snowboard every winter I can, and spend as much time as possible with my best friends, Max and Norah, two golden retrievers OOT members know well. Max has been there since the very beginning.
What's next
On the nursing side, I'm continuing my education to become a nurse practitioner and, one day, to open my own primary care practice, where I know every patient in my care gets the care they deserve. On the market side, I'll keep building, and keep growing TapeDash into the one-stop shop it was meant to be.
If you remember one thing about me, let it be this: true happiness exists, and you will get there if you keep working toward it, no matter the risks or the hardship. Since graduating nursing school I can honestly say I've found it. It's a feeling no money and no material thing can match: waking up every day doing what you love.— Justin
